Darrell Blackburn

Darrell M. R. Blackburn, 79 of Fortville, IN passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on March 20, 2019.  He was born in Indianapolis on September 23, 1939 to Hanson “Art” and Gladys (Armstrong).

Darrell was a true entrepreneur. He took great pride in his numerous different ventures throughout his life. From his time at Coca-Cola and PepsiCo to his time at Budweiser, Darrell enjoyed being on the road. He settled down for awhile as owner of Prospect Tavern and the Dairy Bar in Indianapolis, IN. Eventually, his thirst for the road returned with a new entrepreneurial endeavor as the owner of Blackburn & Son Trucking for twenty-nine years. Darrell took great pride in providing for his family and did an amazing job along the way.

Darrell had been a member of the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge #669 in Mooresville since 1965.

Darrell’s passion was being on the water!  He was very talented on water skis and would spend nearly every weekend on a boat.  His favorite hobbies included collecting coins, firearms and playing Euchre with his family.  He will always be fondly remembered as a great man who was always willing to help someone in their time of need.

Darrell is survived by one son, Darrell Jr. (Robin) of Fortville; three daughters, April (Buddy) Maddux of Indianapolis, Jeana (Jack) Horner of Greenfield and Elizabeth (Jim) Helton of Greenfield; two brothers, James (Cecilia) of Maxwell and William of Poland; and one sister-in-law, Janice of Johnson City, TN.  He is also survived by 9 loving grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.  Abby, his beloved Toy Poodle, who was his very best friend in this world also survives.

Darrell is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Kenna Jean (Martin); his parents; his brothers Ralph, Ronald, and John as well as his sisters-in-law, Wanda and Thurby.

Masonic Services will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 4:00PM at Eden United Methodist Church (2122 E Eden Rd, Greenfield, IN) with a funeral service immediately following.    Friends may call from 2:00-4:00PM at the church.
