Alice Louise Godby-Schwab, 62, of Lapel passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Compassus Hospice in Indianapolis. She was born in Indianapolis on February 17, 1960 to Louis and Marrna (Ditzler) Godby.
Alice graduated from Thomas Carr High School (1978) in Indianapolis. She worked for many years in the offices of Public Employees Retirement Fund (PERF) for the State of Indiana. Alice retired from the Indiana University School of Social Work where she served as a Financial Clerk for more than 35 years. Her legacy will live on through a scholarship geared toward non-traditional students at Indiana University.
She has been passionately involved with dog rescues for several decades. She loved to travel internationally with her family; her favorite destinations include France, Hawaii, Iceland, Costa Rica and Spain. She also enjoyed gardening, camping at Draper Cabin, hiking, and was a talented Tole painter. She had also been known to parachute out of an airplane or two.
Alice is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Edward Godby-Schwab; two sons, JayT Godby-Schwab and Hunter Godby-Schwab both of Lapel; one brother, Phillip (Anne) Godby of Whitestown; one sister, Lisa (Oscar) Sparkman of Perryville, KY; and one brother-in-law, Michael Williams of Indianapolis. Several loving nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins also survive as does her best friend, Colleen Brown of Indianapolis.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Laura Williams and Susan Winegar.
A celebration of Alice’s life will be held at a later date.
