Danny Richard Shell, 75, of Elwood, IN passed away on April 16, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Jonesville, VA on July 15, 1948 to Thomas and Nancy (McConnell) Shell.

Danny served in the US Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Louis Monroe American Legion Post 53 in Elwood and the Elwood Conservation Club.

Danny will be lovingly remembered as a devoted family man who lived life to the fullest. Whether traveling to Roswell, NM, Spring Mill State Park, or to his family cabin in Jonesville, VA (which was his most favorite place), Danny was always up for an adventure! He was proud to own a 2004 40th Anniversary Ford Mustang, which had been on his bucket list for years. Danny enjoyed collecting records (especially The Beatles), watching NASCAR races, and was an avid gun collector.  Above all, he loved taking care of, spending time with, and making memories with his family.

Danny is survived by three daughters, Nikki (Timothy) Laster of Elwood, Dani (Jason James) Childress of Elwood and Melissa Brenneman; one son, Phil Camp Shell of Noblesville; three brothers, Thomas D. (Alma “Penny”) Shell, Tony (Paula) Shell, and Paul (Trina) Shell; three sisters, Roberta (Philip) Utter, Paula Martinez, and Sandy Daniello; five grandchildren, Alysa (Joe Metz) Childress, Zac (Elizabeth Vautaw) Childress, Lily (Todd) Brewster, Adryanna (Jacob) Harris, and Robyn (Zack Wright) Brush; and two great grandchildren, Amara Metz and Sunny Metz. Many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and wonderful friends will also miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandmother, Verna “Granny” McConnell; his life partner, Diana (Gerber) Shell; two grandchildren, Christopher Camp Shell and Nicholas Camp Shell; and his son-in-law, Sonny Childress.

A celebration of Danny’s life will be planned at a later date.
