Emma Jane (Hill) Johnson Parks, 80, of Muncie, Indiana (formerly of Yuma, Arizona), passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2025, following an extended illness.

She was born on August 6, 1944, in Jackson, Mississippi, to James and Mae Ella (Twilly) Hill. From her earliest years, Emma carried a quiet strength, a love for family, and a deep sense of faith that would remain central to her life.

Emma was a devoted member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for most of her life and found great comfort and purpose in her spiritual community. Professionally, she spent several years employed by Shell Oil Company while living in California — a role she carried out with dignity and pride. Later in life, she pursued her passion as a licensed barber. Emma built lasting relationships with many of her clients, and it was clear that she loved not just the craft, but also the people who filled her chair.

At home, Emma was known for her green thumb. She took great joy in gardening and spent many peaceful hours tending to her plants. She also loved canning — preserving not just food, but the feeling of home and togetherness that came with it. But above all else, Emma’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren, and her love for them was constant, fierce, and unconditional.

She is survived by her loving children, Bonita Hill of Yuma, Arizona, and Wesley Goodwin of Muncie, Indiana; and five beloved grandchildren: Skyonna Parks of Yuma, Arizona; Diego Montgomery of Yuma, Arizona; and Zandrick Parks of Muncie, Farronte Parks of New Mexico, and Burnique Thomas of California .

A Celebration of Emma’s life will be announced at a later date.
