John Arthur Greene, 85, of Columbus, Indiana passed away on August 8, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on June 22, 1938 to Arthur and Helen Greene in Anderson Indiana. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country as a Machine Gunner. He was always grateful for his time in the service which gave him the opportunity to travel all over the world. He was honorably discharged after three years, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal.

After service, he landed his first job as a production worker for Cummins, kicking off a 46 year career that spanned various roles.

In 1969, John met the love of his life, Elaine Masucci. They married one year later in 1970. Together, John and Elaine have two children, Nancy (Brock) Luginbill and Marjorie (Scott) Anderson. He was a lifelong member of Columbus First Church of the Nazarene where he was baptized.

After retiring in 2003, John enjoyed traveling and spending the winters in Florida with his wife. He loved to plant flowers, feed birds and other animals. He was known for his generosity. John generously donated his body to the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine. His desire was to contribute to the advancement of health science education in Indiana.

John was predeceased by his parents, his brother Jackie Greene, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Jerry Tracey, brother-in-law Russ Barlow, nephew Royce Barlow and grandson Trey Luginbill. He is survived by his wife and daughters, his brother Arnold (Bonnie) Greene, sister Janet Barlow, step-sister Donna (Bill) Gottfried and granddaughters Mia Luginbill, Ellie Luginbill, Lauren Anderson, Katie Anderson and multiple cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Columbus First Church of the Nazarene on Sunday, September 3 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
