Lena Ann (Van Horn) Mendenhall, 67, of Anderson passed away peacefully at Edgewater Woods on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 following an extended illness. She was born on May 2, 1948 in Muncie, IN.
Lena worked for nearly twenty years as a server at Frisch’s Big Boy where she will be remembered for her attentive, caring nature with customers and making them feel like family. Most recently, she worked as a hearing specialist for Beltone/
Lena was a selfless person with a servant’s heart. She always put her family first and loved nothing more than spending time with them. Lena enjoyed horses, liked to garden, cook her famous chicken noodles, fish and take care of her birds, but playing bingo was unquestionably one of her most favorite pastimes.
Lena is survived by two sons, Mike (Wendy Nicholson) Mendenhall and Shawn (Mashalia) Mendenhall of Anderson; one daughter, Edie (Harley) Heath of Noblesville; and four grandchildren, Tori, Bailey, Shian and Killian. Several loving nieces and nephews also survive as does her closest friend, Sherry Daugherty of Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Ethel Frye; sister, Judy Ricci; brother, Butch Frederick, Jr.; son, Darren Mendenhall; and grandson, Kendall Nicholson.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff members at Edgewater Woods in Anderson for their love and wonderful care.
A celebration of Lena’s life will be held at a future date.
